If you’re like me, I live for music. I will constantly be playing some tune in my head and I will constantly have song lyrics stuck playing over and over again. Now I’m no musician, I can only barely play guitar, I only know how to make noise with drums and I can only play Chopsticks on the Piano (and Beethoven’s Fur Elise song, this I’m pretty proud of myself for).

But there is definitely something about music that really makes you feel something. I mean if you go through a bad breakup, or you feel like your world is falling apart, I tend to turn to music to help heal me, to help me get through those tough days. Or to motivate me.

On today’s blog post, I decided to share with you my top ten songs to help motivate me to keep pushing forward. To keep on keeping. I like to listen to these on some of my tough days, or even on my happiest days to keep me grounded and know my worth is always high.

And with my novel coming out (September 14), I figured this is a great chance for you to see the music that I sometimes listen to when I’m in the zone to write. I do have a separate playlist just for writing, but these songs definitely come up every so often.

Happy Day 8 of my 14-day book launch, I hope you enjoy today’s blog post. Maybe get some new music onto your playlist or something.

I hope these help you as much as they’ve helped me. P.S. my type of music is very pop-y with a side of rap and show tunes. That’s just how I roll.

Lose Yourself by Eminem

Eminem has been in the headlines lately because Kamikaze is an amazing album and everyone should definitely listen to it. But you can’t go wrong with this 8 Mile song. I mean we all know when this song comes on the radio, you are blasting it and rapping along. At least that is definitely what I’m doing.

“You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime you better… You can do anything you set your mind to, man”

Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys

If you’re like me, I love New York City. Everything about that city just screams life and gets me super hyped. This song always makes me want to get up and dance around and praise the poop out of New York. It also helps me get in that mindset of working hard on my goals to maybe one day live my life in this concrete jungle. Maybe it’s the FRIENDS show in me, but I’ve always aspired to live in the big apple and what better way to get motivated in my goals than to listen to a song that praises the city I want to one day end up in.

“Concrete Jungle where dreams are made of. There’s nothing you can’t do. These streets will make you feel brand new. These lights will inspire you.”

This is Me by The cast of The Greatest Showman

When I first heard this song in the movie The Greatest Showman, I was so moved by it. Now when I’m feeling so down and I feel like I’m hitting a low point in my life, career, whatever it may be, I just turn this song on and it immediately uplifts my spirit. It reminds me that I am an amazing human being and that as much as life brings me down, I wouldn’t be where I am now if it weren’t for me being me.

“I am brave, I am bruised, I am who I’m meant to be, this is me”

Out here Grindin’ by DJ Khaled

The first line of this song always gets me “I don’t care what nobody says, Imma be me.” It’s 100 percent true. It shouldn’t matter what anybody says because they will NEVER be able to tell you how to be who you really are. Now, this is different than let’s say getting constructive criticism on your work, but if someone starts to attack your character and say you’re not being your true self, who are they to say what your true self is. You just get out there and grind baby, do what YOU do best.

Added song to this by DJ Khaled is All I do is Win – best way to pump yourself up in any situation in my opinion.

“I don’t care what nobody says, Imma be me (be me)”

Stronger by Kelly Clarkson

Now I’m a huge Kelly Clarkson fan, but when this song came out it’s been my go-to song for whenever I feel so down in the dumps and I just want to give up. Or I’m having trouble getting over a bad project or whatever. Because ‘What doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger’. Life lessons taught by Kelly Clarkson because this can associate with failures in work, school, projects, businesses, pretty much anything if you didn’t die from it then you can get back up and you can just get stronger and learn from it.

“What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. Stand a little taller.”

Burn by Ellie Goulding

This song actually motivates me to workout. More so, it motivates me to push myself harder when I work out. Maybe it’s because it’s called burn and all I’m thinking about is burning off all those calories I ate for lunch, but it sure does the trick. Plus it helps motivate me to start a fire (not literally peeps) but to put on a big fire of projects and really make people see who I am. And all the things I’m capable of. I’m ready to take over the world baby, and it’s going to be fire.

“Cause we got the fire and we’re burning one hell of a something.”

Work B**** by Britney Spears

Britney is my main chick. I freaking love Britney Spears. And this song is nothing less than a straightforward motivating song for me. Basically, she tells me if I want something I gotta work for it, plain and simple. And you know what Britney, I gotchu. I better work.

“Work it hard, like it’s your profession.Watch out now, cause here it comes.”

Float On by Modest Mouse

I just recently started to listen to a lot of Modest Mouse thanks to the bf. And we tend to listen to it on the way to the gym early in the A.M. So this song is just one of those feel-good songs that you can listen to when you just want to feel the music vibe through and know that everything will be okay, you just keep floating on anyway.

“And we’ll all float on okay. And we’ll all float on anyway, well”

I’ll Make a Man Out of You By Mulan

Maybe I’m just the biggest Mulan fan ever, but seriously this song kicks ass and motivates the heck out of me. Whenever I hear this I want to work harder and get stronger and in the end become like Mulan who freaking SAVES China. Who wouldn’t be a more inspiring person to look up to than Mulan. So this song makes it on my top Motivational list.

“Be a man. We must be swift as the coursing river. Be a man. With all the force of a great typhoon. Be a man. With all the strength of a raging fire. Mysterious as the dark side of the moon.”

Good Life by One Republic

And while there are times I get down, there are also times I feel very good in my life and Good Life is always there to make me feel like my life at any time of the day is a good one. Maybe it’s always about how you perceive things, but when I hear this I song I just remember that through the bad and good times, I do in fact have a good life. I’m alive, I have clothes on my body, food in my kitchen, people who love and support me. I truly have nothing to complain about in my life. And to me listening to this song always reminds me that no matter what, I do live the best life I live and I can only become better.

“Sometimes there’s airplanes I can’t jump out. Sometimes there’s bullshit that don’t work now. We all got our stories, but please tell me-e-e-e- What there is to complain about.”

There you have it, my top ten motivational songs. These songs have helped me through some good and some bad times and I hope it helps you.
