Happy Day 2 of my 14-day book launch! For today’s topic of discussion or revealing stuff, it is going to be about why I chose the YA Romance genre for my first book!

If you didn’t already read my last post, you can check it out here, but I not only revealed my book cover, I also announced my book is a Young Adult Sports Romance novel!

Yes, The Princess Center is a YA Sports Romance Novel. But today, I wanted to go about why I chose the YA Romance Genre for my first ever published work.

This dates back to when I first got into reading, I read a ton of YA romance novels. And that’s it. The end.

I’m just kidding, well kind of. I actually started off reading Harry Potter and all those type novels, Narnia, Series of Unfortunate Events, etc. But once I read this booklet of a YA Romance novel sometime early 5th grade, I was officially hooked on this genre.

And ever since, I picked up books from the library about young love. By 7th grade, I started to write these short stories about high school romances in my school notebooks. I would share them with my friends whenever I wrote new chapters each week.

In high school, it was still written in notebooks when I was bored, but I didn’t share them as much. I also started sports all throughout the years when I was in high school.

So when I was thinking about my first genre to work within fiction, YA Romance was my number one choice because I not only read so much of it, I’ve been writing about it since I was a young kid.

I got so inspired for Sports Romance novels when I started to read Miranda Kenneally’s books (My affiliate link). I ate them up so quickly. And she made them so fun and based around some sort of sport that I decided to take my hand in that because growing up, sports was a huge thing for me and my family.

I like to think any kid involved in sports is a wonderful thing because it teaches you things like teamwork, discipline, etc. Not ruling out other activities, but for me, sports was a big deal throughout high school, even though I got screwed over my senior year, but that’ll be saved for a podcast episode in the future.

So with almost any book, you kind of pull from past experiences and then mix it in with the new world you created. And that’s what I did.

I love the idea of sports mixing in with young love. And I love the idea of young love and the innocence of it all. Which is truly how I got into not only reading YA romance novels but also how I got into writing them.

Now I’m into romance novels, period, but YA romance just has a special place in my heart.

Thanks for reading my lovely friends. Don’t forget my novel, The Princess Center, comes out September 14, 2018!

Check back tomorrow for another fun blog post!

As always, don’t forget to enjoy the unfamiliar!

XOXO
