St. Thomas

To continue on with my Eastern Caribbean Cruise Getaway, our next stop involves me getting to ride an awesome boat.

I feel like no vacation to the Caribbean is complete without a snorkeling trip. And we decided just that for our trip to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. My aunt and I booked one of the excursions for snorkeling on the cruise ship.

Now there are a lot of excursions that sound fun and interesting that you can purchase on the cruise ship, but the name Sea Blaster and free rum definitely caught my eye. (I’m sure there are also a lot of other snorkeling trips you can do without the help of the cruise, but we decided to just make it easier for us.)

It was a three hour excursion and we had to go first thing in the morning. It was a tad bit chilly, but I was so excited. I had my bathing suit and everything all packed up ready to go.

As we got closer and closer to the dock, we were watching as the sun rose in the horizon and caught glimpses of the island. It was gorgeous. As we walked towards the boat we were going to, we got to see our cruise ship from a far and few animals on the way.

Once on the boat, there were three crew members and a captain talking to us as we were about to embark on to the ocean. The captain then started up the boat and we were off.

At first it was slow and steady, he then said to pack up all our belongings and stow them away in a bag that won’t get wet. And luckily I had a backpack to put all my dry clothes and things in.

He said it’s not called sea blaster for nothing. He then sped up the boat and we were in hyper speed. We had water splashing all over our face and body and everything. I was soaked and I hadn’t even been in the water yet.

Unfortunately, the water was still freezing cold and while it was a lot of fun to be sprayed and doused in water after it left a bit of chill. But overall, it was a ton of fun

Finally we reached our destination of our first snorkeling adventure. The sun was finally out and the water was clear as day. It was absolutely beautiful. I couldn’t wait to dive right in.

After getting all geared up, I was off into the land of sea creatures. And since I was go-pro less, here are my photos taken in the water with a disposable film camera I bought on the boat. (Which by the way, apparently film is an out dated accessory and only certain places still develop and print film).

It was so wonderful, I didn’t want to get out. Now this is my first snorkeling experience and I’ve heard of much better ones, but I had a blast during my time. Plus I’m not used to taking underwater photos with goggles on my face, so it’s not the best photos. But the experience has been ingrained in my head.

After we flopped back on board and cozied up in a towel, it was time for free rum and juice. And they definitely do not skip out on the rum. I mean they poured the rum and put juice and then came back to everyone and poured more rum. It was great.

The ride back was much smoother, no water blasts to wake us up, just a nice sail through the ocean as we sipped on our rum and enjoyed the warm sea air.

Then I saw the captain was letting little kids steer the boat. Well I’m not a little kid, but I wanted to steer. So I asked and he let me. I, Yvonne, steered a boat full of people and they did not die in a horrible boat accident.

I was so stoked, excuse my look, but it was crazy actually steering and I was not just going in a straight line, I was actually steering the boat. Then my aunt steered as well and it was just so much fun.

After the excursion we still had some time to look around town near the port station where there were little shops. We didn’t venture off into the city for we would’ve had to take these unreliable looking buses and probably would’ve been left by our cruise ship. Which did happen to these two ladies and we even watched as they ran to the ship to try and get on, but were left any ways. (So really, when they say get on the ship by this time, you better!)

Overall, US Virgin Islands was a beautiful place, the snorkeling trip was awesome and I just couldn’t help but love being on a boat. And had so much fun being the captain for a small amount of time.

  1. We love St. Thomas and snorkeling. This looks like a wonderful and fun excursion. I’m glad you and your aunt enjoyed it. We love the warm water snorkeling more like the ones in the Caribbean, Tahiti and Hawaii. Catalina Island is great but a little too cold for me.
